Health Care Navigator Program

The Greater Lawrence Community Action Council (GLCAC) Health Care Navigator Program holds hours 1-2 times per month at Community Action, Inc.’s office located at 3 Washington Square in Haverhill, MA. This program can help educate and enroll you in the new programs now available under the federal Affordable Care Act. GLCAC is a designated as an official Navigator by the Massachusetts Health Connector.

Community Services

Assistance (depending on available funding) with housing costs, utilities, and other emergency expenses; housing search services; and referrals to other sources of help and resources for residents in the Greater Haverhill, Massachusetts area.

SNAP

You may be eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) administers SNAP benefits. SNAP provides a monthly benefit to buy nutritious foods. To get SNAP, you must be low-income and be a U.S. citizen or legal noncitizen (restrictions apply). Eligibility for SNAP benefits depends on financial and nonfinancial criteria.

CAI offers assistance with applying for the SNAP program on Monday mornings, 9–11 a.m. at 3 Washington Square, first floor in Haverhill. To make an appointment contact Iris Narvaez, (978) 373-1971. Walk-ins are welcome but an appointment is recommended due to limited hours.

EFSP

The CAI Haverhill Office administers the Emergency Food, Shelter, Rent and Utility Program (EFSP). EFSP is a federally funded financial assistance program designed to provide emergency support to people having difficulty keeping up with household bills including; rent, mortgage and utilities (excluding telephone, cable and Internet).

Funds are available on a limited basis and are allocated on a first come, first served basis after completing client intake and determining eligibility. Eligibility for this program includes having sustainable income.

This program serves residents of Essex County.

Eligibility varies based on program/service. CAI Greater Haverhill Community Services serves the following Massachusetts cities and towns: Boxford, Georgetown, Groveland, Haverhill and Rowley.
